Cumbia is the soundtrack of Latin America — from Colombia to Mexico to every Vegas backyard party. Our open-level cumbia class teaches the classic back-step basic, partner spins, wraps and the relaxed, swaying styling that makes cumbia such a joy to dance. It's friendly, social, and easier to pick up than salsa, which is why it's one of the most-requested classes on our schedule.

What you'll learn

We begin with the simple cumbia basic and frame, then layer right and left turns, the hammerlock, the cradle and short combinations you can use anywhere. Ashley, our cumbia instructor, also teaches you how to listen to the music — Mexican cumbia, Colombian cumbia, Andean cumbia and modern cumbia rebajada all have slightly different feels, and matching your energy to the song is what makes you look like a 'real' cumbia dancer instead of just running steps.
