About Merengue
Merengue is the friendliest dance in the Latin world — a steady marching 1-2 beat that most people pick up inside one class. Born in the Dominican Republic, it's the sound of every Latin wedding, quinceañera and family party in Vegas, and once you have the basic you'll never sit out another merengue song. Here's the honest part: merengue doesn't have its own night on our weekly schedule at the moment. What we do have is Intro to Latin Dance, where merengue is one of the four rhythms taught, and private lessons if you want to go deeper on it specifically.
What you'll learn
The merengue basics we teach are the same wherever you learn them with us: the side step and posture, hip motion that comes from the weight change rather than forcing it, hand turns, the classic cradle, and short combinations that work on a crowded floor. Because merengue's timing is so forgiving — every beat is a step — most people get a usable pattern in the first twenty minutes. In Intro to Latin Dance you get that alongside salsa, bachata and cumbia; in a private lesson we can spend the whole hour on merengue alone, which is what most wedding couples choose.
