Beginner Questions, Honest Answers
I've never danced before. Is that actually okay?
It's the whole point. Our beginner classes assume zero experience — no rhythm, no background, no idea what a basic step is. Every class starts from scratch and builds one piece at a time.
Do I need to bring a partner?
No. Most people come solo. In partner classes we rotate every song, so you'll dance with everyone and never sit out.
What's the best dance class for an adult beginner?
Start with Intro to Latin Rhythms. It samples salsa, bachata, merengue and cumbia in one beginner-only class, so you find the style you love before committing to it. From there, most people move into Salsa Level 1 or Bachata Level 1.
How much do beginner dance classes cost in Las Vegas?
Your first group class at My Roots is free — walk into any beginner class and try it. After that, we offer drop-ins, class packs and unlimited memberships. Reach out and we'll help you pick.
Am I too old to start dancing?
No. Our adult classes (18+) have dancers in their 20s through their 60s, and beginners join every single week. Nobody is watching you — everyone in the room started exactly where you are.
How long until I can actually dance at a social?
Most consistent beginners are comfortable on the social floor in 4–8 weeks. Our Friday social nights even start with a beginner lesson, so you can test the waters early.
