Everything you need to know before your first class at My Roots Dance Studio in Las Vegas.
- Do I need a partner to take a class here?
- No partner needed — most people come alone. We rotate partners in class, so you dance with everyone, and it is how most students end up making friends here.
- I've never danced before, is this place beginner friendly?
- Absolutely — most of our students walked in with zero experience. Start with Intro to Latin Rhythms, Salsa Level 1 or Bachata Open Level. Your first class is free.
- What should I wear to my first class?
- Comfortable clothes you can move in, and smooth-soled shoes — running sneakers grip the floor and fight your turns. Bring water. Dance shoes are nice but not needed.

No card, no commitment, no partner needed. Pick a night that works, tell us you're coming, and wear what you'd wear to the gym.
- Do you offer classes for kids?
- Yes — a full youth program for ages 5 to 17: Latin rhythms, jazz and hip hop, K-pop, ballroom and salsa. Their first class is free too.
- Is there parking on site?
- Yes — free parking right outside the door, and there is always room.
- What styles of Latin dance do you teach?
- Salsa, bachata, cumbia and reggaeton are the core, plus specialty rooms like rueda de casino, salsa technique and salsa cardio. Intro to Latin Rhythms samples several in one class.
- Do you have classes in Spanish?
- Classes are taught in English, but most of our instructors are bilingual — ask a question in Spanish and you will get an answer in Spanish.
- How much is a membership?
- It depends how often you come — drop-ins, class packs or monthly unlimited. Your first class is free, so try it before you decide. Call or text for current rates.
- Can I rent the studio for a private event?
- Yes — three rooms with mirrors, sprung floors and sound, used for parties, quinceañeras, photo and video shoots, rehearsals and corporate events. Call or text for rates.
- What makes My Roots different from other dance studios?
- We are Latino-owned and independent, not a franchise. Our instructors are working dancers who social-dance this music themselves, so what you learn is what people actually dance.
- How much do dance classes cost in Las Vegas?
- Your first group class here is free, no card needed. After that it is drop-ins, class packs or monthly unlimited, depending how often you come. Call or text (702) 236-5966.
- Is salsa or bachata easier to learn?
- Bachata, by a good margin. Its basic is a four-count side-tap at a slower tempo, and most people have it inside one class. Salsa's eight-count turns take a few more.
- What's the difference between salsa and bachata?
- Salsa is faster and travels — eight counts, lots of turns. Bachata is slower, stays close, and lives in the hip tap on four. Salsa rewards patterns; bachata rewards connection.
- How long does it take to learn bachata or salsa well enough to dance socially?
- Four to six weeks of steady classes is typical. Bachata usually clicks sooner because the basic is simpler; salsa's turn patterns take the full stretch to feel natural.
- Is dance class a good hobby for adults with no experience?
- One of the best — you dance with a new partner every few minutes instead of staring at a mirror. No experience or partner needed; most first-timers walk in alone.
