About Mambo / Pachanga 201
Mambo / Pachanga 201 is the deep-dive class for dancers ready to move beyond on-1 salsa and explore the elegance of New York-style on-2 mambo and classic Cuban pachanga. Taught by Tony & Melissa — both with years of stage and social experience — this 90-minute intermediate class blends technique, footwork and styling so you leave with patterns you can actually use at any salsa social or congress.
What you'll learn
We drill on-2 timing until it clicks, then build cross-body leads, hammerlocks, copas and turn patterns adapted to the on-2 break. Pachanga footwork — the relaxed, knee-driven step style that brings flavor to any salsa song — gets dedicated time every class, including the classic Eddie Torres and Cuban variations. Leads sharpen their slot control; follows sharpen their spotting and centered spins.
Why this class works
On-2 is what separates social dancers from serious salseros, and pachanga is the styling that turns 'good' into 'unforgettable.' Tony and Melissa teach both with patience and humor, breaking down the timing in ways that finally make on-2 click for students who've struggled with it for years. The 90-minute format gives us room to drill, repeat and run combos full out — which is how patterns actually stick.
On2 is the deep end of a much bigger pool — the full salsa program shows every route that leads here.

Frequently asked
Do I need on-2 experience?
No, but you should be comfortable with on-1 salsa basics and cross-body leads.
Why is this class 90 minutes?
On-2 timing needs drill time. The extra 40 minutes is where it clicks.
Is pachanga a separate dance?
It's a styling layered onto salsa music — we teach both as one integrated class.
